Savage FINcast RETRO – Episode 01: The Savage Dragon (Mini-Series) 1 & 2

Welcome to the Savage FINcast Retro! A new review series where we of the Savage FINcast finally go back to the 90s to review classic issues of Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon in chronological order from the beginning. We’re going to be using this new review series to supplement our usual current issue review and interview episodes. So that as of this month the Savage FINcast will be bi-monthly with brand new episodes posted on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month! Our irregular schedule has never been liked very much, and we’re hoping this move to create a backlog of review content will be what we need to make the show regular from now on. Regular FINcast content will be posted when we have it, otherwise you’ll be treated to a new retro review episode!

On this episode Craig, Jim, & Raven go back to the very very beginning and review the first 2 issues of the the 1992 The Savage Dragon mini-series. Where we witness Dragon’s first introduction, his being discovered in the burning field, his recruitment to the Chicago PD, and his first encounters with the Vicious Circle.

Questions, comments, suggestion can be emailed to SavageFINcast@gmail.com. Check us out at our homepage SavageFINcast.com. We’re on iTunes, and now on Google Play Music!

Eh boys, I have a suggestion for a FINterestung convo topic. If you could pick any artist or writer to work on Savage Dragon or a Savage Dragon spin-off, who would it be? This includes creators who have passed on. I’ll add more more of my suggestions in an email but off the top of my head I’d say Alex Ross. Would love to see how he would render the Vicious Circle.

Sweet! Eh what’s the deal with issue 245? Was taken off previews for July. I guess the Marvel commitments Erik took on have slowed the book down. Issue 250 for Christmas maybe?

I’m diggin the chronological format for the retro reviews; just wondering though, how often are you guys gonna pump these out? You aiming to get caught up in time for issue #300?

The goal is to have a Fincast out every two weeks. If new issues aren’t out, then we will do Retro reviews or Finterviews.

  1. This is an awesome idea! Can’t wait to hear this and the future episodes.

…and Mike and Tony! Thank you for listening as well. Love hearing the feedback!

  2. I bought comics at the grocery store (mostly Sonic) until about 2001-2002.
