Welcome to the Savage FINcast Retro! A new review series where we of the Savage FINcast finally go back to the 90s to review classic issues of Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon in chronological order from the beginning! This episode Craig, Jim, & Raven take a look at the finale issue of the original Savage Dragon mini-series to witness Dragon’s first throwdown with the wider Image Comics Universe. Then they take a look at Dragon’s first big indie comic crossover one-shot, as Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon collides with Don Simpson’s Megaton Man in The Savage Dragon vs The Savage Megaton Man. Where we meet the Johnny Redbeard’s Nix Men and the creature Slagg Heap as Larsen and Simpson trade off on art duties in a clash of not only characters, but art styles.

Savage FINcast RETRO – Episode 01: The Savage Dragon (Mini-Series) 1 & 2

Welcome to the Savage FINcast Retro! A new review series where we of the Savage FINcast finally go back to the 90s to review classic issues of Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon in chronological order from the beginning. We’re going to be using this new review series to supplement our usual current issue review and interview episodes. So that as of this month the Savage FINcast will be bi-monthly with brand new episodes posted on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month! Our irregular schedule has never been liked very much, and we’re hoping this move to create a backlog of review content will be what we need to make the show regular from now on. Regular FINcast content will be posted when we have it, otherwise you’ll be treated to a new retro review episode!

On this episode Craig, Jim, & Raven go back to the very very beginning and review the first 2 issues of the the 1992 The Savage Dragon mini-series. Where we witness Dragon’s first introduction, his being discovered in the burning field, his recruitment to the Chicago PD, and his first encounters with the Vicious Circle.

Savage FINcast – Episode 83: FINterview with Gary Carlson!

Welcome to the second episode of our FINterviews off-shoot format where we interview artists, writers, industry insiders, or just our friends in general!  What will do they all have in common? A love of Savage Dragon and the work of Erik Larsen, of course!

Our newest FINterview guest is comic book writer, editor and publisher, Gary Carlson, known for his creator-owned comics, such as the 1980s anthology, Megaton, and Big Bang Comics. He has also worked on books for Image Comics, such as Vanguard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Supreme, and on titles for DC Comics and Marvel Comics, such as Aquaman and Nova. Through the years, Gary has worked closely with Erik Larsen, starting with publishing some of Erik’s earliest work in Megaton comics, through writing comics under Erik’s Highbrow imprint at Image Comics.

Gary returns to the Fincast to discuss his cult classic 23-issue run on the Image Comics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title which currently being reprinted for the first time in color by IDW comics! The comic, re-branded as “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:Urban Legends” is currently on issue 13 and is anticipated to conclude at issue 26 with three issues of new story to give the original series a proper ending. After jawing about the turtles, the gang finds some time to discuss the genius of some of their favorite issues of Gary’s Big Bang Comics series as well as a new Big Bang-style Mighty Man strip on the way.
